Introduction
Some habits and addictions can be extremely dangerous for us. We know this, yet we still go to any lengths to fulfill these desires. And the results are, most of the time, horrifying. Today, I’m bringing you one such incident from Assam. Let’s begin.
The Love Affair and Marriage
This incident begins with a love affair between Amarjyoti Dey and Bandana Kalita. The two loved each other very much, and gradually they began planning their marriage.
The Quick Decision
The time span between their relationship beginning and their decision to marry was very short. Nevertheless, they made this decision and discussed it with their respective families.
However, Shankari Dey—Amarjyoti’s mother—was not very happy about this marriage. But exhausted by her son’s insistence, she eventually had to bow to her child’s wishes and agreed to the marriage.
The Wealthy Family
Shankari Dey was extremely wealthy. She owned four bungalows in Guwahati:
She lived in one herself
The other three were rented out, providing her with substantial monthly rental income
As planned, the wedding took place. Everything was going relatively normally. Amarjyoti worked at a private company, while his mother received considerable rent from her apartment properties.
Early Married Life
Gradually, life was going well. Bandana was slowly winning over her mother-in-law’s heart—she was doing everything possible to make her happy. And eventually, this happened too. The family was quite happy, and her mother-in-law was now very pleased with the marriage.
The Gym Venture
Since Amarjyoti went to work and Bandana was mostly alone at home, her mother-in-law suggested she should do something productive. Shankari Dey offered to provide whatever money was needed, whatever financing was required.
One thought immediately came to Bandana’s mind: she wanted to become a gym trainer.
Before marriage, Bandana had been a PT (Physical Training) teacher at a private school. Bandana continued this passion further and took training to become a gym trainer. Her mother-in-law bore all the expenses, and afterward, she even helped her open a gym where Bandana herself was the trainer.
The Sudden Change
Everything was running normally, but suddenly things changed slightly. Shankari stopped giving Bandana any money, saying she would no longer finance her. Moreover, she moved to another house.
Previously, they had all been living together in a house in Noonmati, Guwahati. After this, Shankari—Bandana’s mother-in-law—moved to a house on Zoo Road, Tenali, which was only 5 kilometers away from their house.
No one knew what the reason was. Nevertheless, Bandana’s gym remained open and was running quite well, so she continued working there as a gym trainer.
The Missing Persons Report
October 27, 2022
Gradually, one day something very strange happened. Bandana went to the police station to file a complaint—a missing persons report for her husband and mother-in-law.
She stated that both had been missing for quite some time, neither could be found, and Bandana was very distressed about this.
The police took the complaint and got to work, but even after several days passed, there were no results in this matter. Bandana kept making rounds to the police station repeatedly.
The police also wanted to solve this case, but they weren’t getting leads from anywhere.
The Investigation Stalls
Bandana had filed this case on October 27, 2022, but even after nearly a month had passed, the police couldn’t do anything about this matter. They weren’t getting leads from anywhere.
Bandana got tired of going to the police station. She now said she wanted to file this complaint with the CID. She wanted this case handed over to the CID. But the police were still trying their best from their end.
The Nephew’s Counter-Complaint
December 2022
Nearly two months after Bandana filed her case—in December 2022—Shankari’s nephew went to the police station. His name was Nirmaya Dey, and he filed a complaint with the police stating:
He believed that his aunt Shankari Dey and her son Amarjyoti Dey had both been kidnapped and were being held by Bandana herself.
He also told the police that money was continuously being withdrawn from Shankari Dey’s ATM card.
Police Confusion
Hearing this, the police were shocked. They couldn’t understand how the lady who had been coming to them for so long to file complaints could do all this herself. And if she had done all this, why was she so serious about this case?
Shortly after Nirmaya left, Bandana also came to the police station and filed the same type of case—against Nirmaya—who had filed a case against her. Bandana said the same thing about him: that perhaps he was the one withdrawing money from the ATM and he had kidnapped both of them.
Now the police were troubled again because they had gotten a slight lead, but after this, they didn’t understand what to do.
The CCTV Breakthrough
The police began examining CCTV cameras—specifically, all the cameras around ATMs. After a long time, finally, the police found footage from one ATM.
This footage was none other than of Bandana herself, withdrawing money from her mother-in-law’s ATM card.
The Interrogation
The police picked up Bandana. When they interrogated her, Bandana told them she had doubts about Nirmaya, and since the police weren’t taking any action against him, she was doing all this herself—so that Nirmaya would come under police scrutiny somewhat and the police would start questioning him too, so she could reach the culprits, because Bandana believed he was the real culprit.
After this, they sent Bandana back, but somewhere the police had started getting doubts about Bandana.
Questioning the Neighbors
The police started questioning Bandana’s neighbors about what the matter actually was, how Bandana’s behavior was with her neighbors, or how she behaved at home.
The Shocking Revelations
The neighbors revealed:
They didn’t even have any idea that her husband wasn’t living with her
They thought some man or another lived at her house
Bandana had been burning something on her rooftop a few months ago, with very high flames
They thought perhaps she was burning garbage, but why would she burn garbage on the rooftop?
When the police heard this, they went to check the rooftop, but unfortunately, there was nothing on the rooftop again.
But the police doubted that if it were garbage, it would be in the dustbin. If Bandana burned something here, there’s definitely something fishy—and that too from Bandana’s side.
The Arrest and Confession
February 2023
After this, the police picked up Bandana again. Bandana had filed the first case in August 2022 (note: there’s some inconsistency in the original—it mentions October 27, 2022 earlier), but now gradually it had become February when the police took Bandana to the police station again.
This time, they took Bandana into remand.
As soon as they took Bandana into remand, a very horrifying truth came before them that they perhaps never thought of in their lives—especially when Bandana had first come to the police station to file a complaint.
The Truth Unveiled
The Real Intentions
The truth was, Bandana knew that Amarjyoti was very rich—his mother had decent property and they also had very good monthly income. This is why she had entered into a relationship with him.
But Amarjyoti didn’t know anything about this. On the other hand, Bandana’s intentions had always been to grab his money.
However, she didn’t want what eventually happened to actually happen.
The Dissatisfaction
Actually, from after the marriage, Bandana was not satisfied with Amarjyoti. Because of this, she always wanted to be around men. She was already that type of woman.
So when her mother-in-law asked what she wanted to do, she planned to open a gym so she could remain surrounded by men—so she would keep meeting new men. This is why she opened this gym.
And the purpose for which she opened this gym started being fulfilled. Many men came there frequently.
The Beginning of Affairs
But until now, Bandana didn’t have enough courage to talk to anyone about this matter or to inappropriately touch anyone. Nothing had happened yet to give anyone any hints that perhaps Bandana’s intentions were of this type.
But after some time, two boys took admission in Bandana’s gym. Their names were:
Dhanti Deka (age 32)
Arup Deka (age 27)
Dhanti Deka was a driver who drove a taxi, and Arup was his friend. Bandana’s age was also 31 years, so since they were all almost similar in age, they started talking a bit.
The First Encounter
Bandana also felt that the way these two looked at her was not normal at all. What Bandana wanted, perhaps their intentions were the same too.
One day, seeing an opportunity, Bandana invited both of them to her house when her husband wasn’t home.
As soon as they went home, obviously both their intentions were the same, and Bandana had also worn somewhat similar clothes at her home so that seeing her, they would get a bit excited—and that’s exactly what happened there.
Gradually, the moment built, and all three became intimate together.
The Pattern Continues
After this, these things happened very frequently—it became quite normal for them. And perhaps this is why the neighbors didn’t doubt that Amarjyoti wasn’t at home, because men coming and going from her house, men’s voices—this was normal, it kept happening quite a bit.
So neighbors thought that perhaps Amarjyoti was also at home. But no one had thought about what was actually happening there.
Now, since Bandana had opened up in this matter, gradually there were quite a few people who came to that gym, and Bandana tried almost every person—if their intentions were matching with inappropriate intentions, she would invite that person home and would be intimate with them the same way.
This seemed very normal to Bandana. She felt that Amarjyoti would never find out about this, and she would keep fulfilling her desires this way.
The Special Relationship
Gradually, all this kept happening. Many people, as I told you, went to Bandana’s house, but especially Arup Deka and Dhanti Deka—these two were very frequent.
And if we believe many reports, it was also that Bandana had almost come into a relationship with Dhanti—they treated each other that way too. But whenever they were intimate, all three were together.
The Discovery
The Caught in the Act
After this, there was one such moment when these three were being intimate. It was daytime, and then Amarjyoti reached home.
He saw that outside his house, that same taxi was parked that belonged to Dhanti Deka. He thought—Bandana drives a Bullet herself, she has a Bullet, so why has she called a taxi? And secondly, he had talked to Bandana on the phone just a short while ago. He knew there was no one at home except Bandana, and Bandana wasn’t going to use this taxi to go anywhere either.
He got a bit suspicious. He went toward his house, but upon reaching inside the house, he found the door was locked from inside—so he got a bit more suspicious.
When he looked through a window, what he saw inside was very horrifying—seeing it, the ground slipped from under Amarjyoti’s feet.
Inside, Bandana was in a compromising situation with two men.
The Confrontation
Seeing this, Amarjyoti became very angry and started knocking loudly on the door and started shouting. After which, both Arup and Dhanti ran away from there with their clothes.
But on the other side, Bandana didn’t understand what to do because Amarjyoti had seen everything himself, and he now only wanted a divorce from her—he kept saying this repeatedly.
On the other side, Bandana was asking him for forgiveness quite a bit. She wanted to stay with him. She said many times that she would never make this mistake again.
But Amarjyoti had understood that what was happening at his home wasn’t happening for the first time—it had been happening for quite some time. And if she didn’t reform now, she wouldn’t reform in the future either.
Because of this, he refused to forgive her and clearly said he would take a divorce from her very soon.
Planning the Murders
The Motive
But on the other side, Bandana understood that if she took a divorce from him, she wouldn’t get anything in alimony because whatever property there was, it was all in Shankari Dey’s name—Amarjyoti’s mother. Amarjyoti had nothing in his own name.
Therefore, she made a plan—and she couldn’t delay it either. She felt that if Amarjyoti went out and filed a divorce case, she would be caught. If after that she did anything to Amarjyoti, the suspicion would come directly on her.
Murder of Shankari Dey
So the very next day, before anything could happen, during the day when Amarjyoti had gone to his office, Bandana went to her mother-in-law’s house taking Dhanti with her.
There, she engaged her mother-in-law in conversation, and from behind, Dhanti attacked her, causing her to become somewhat unconscious.
After which, both of them together killed her mother-in-law.
They cut her body into pieces, which they filled into three polythene bags, and these three bags they placed in a fridge that was in her mother-in-law’s house itself.
But during all this, whatever blood was scattered inside, to clean it, they needed many clothes. And these very clothes they placed in their car and went back to their other house where she was living with Amarjyoti.
Murder of Amarjyoti
Now she waited for Amarjyoti. As soon as Amarjyoti came home, she mixed something into his drink and gave it to him—sedatives.
As soon as he drank this, Amarjyoti became unconscious. After which, they did the same with Amarjyoti—cut him into pieces, filled him into three polythene bags, and placed him in the fridge.
After this, after cleaning up, the clothes they had, they took them and burned them on their rooftop—which the neighbors had also seen her burning.
Disposal of Bodies
The Mother-in-Law’s Remains
But even after this, these two bodies remained in the fridge for quite a few days. After which, on July 27th, Bandana took Dhanti with her—around 3:00 AM at night—and threw the pieces of her mother-in-law Shankari’s body in a village in Cherrapunji called Sohra.
There, after disposing of it, they came back to their home.
After that, they lived normally. After about some days had passed—20-22 days later—that is, around August 19th, they took out the pieces of Amarjyoti’s body from the fridge as well, which they disposed of in the forests of Meghalaya.
The Shocking Behavior
After which, they felt that perhaps everything would remain normal. But actually, when the police come searching, no matter how cunning the culprit is, the police do catch them.
But how cruel has today’s era become? As soon as Bandana, along with Dhanti and Arup, had done all this with Amarjyoti, even that same night, they were intimate in the same house.
The Discovery of Evidence
After making the full confession, the police took Bandana to those very spots where they had thrown the body pieces.
When they went to the mother-in-law’s side, there they found the mother-in-law’s body pieces, but her head was not found anywhere.
On the other side, when they went to find Amarjyoti’s body pieces, they didn’t find any piece of Amarjyoti at all.
No Remorse
And Bandana had no regret about all this. When the police were taking her away after catching her, she was going in the police van laughing—as if she hadn’t done anything, or she had no regret for what she had done, or you could say she knew she was going to come out in a short time.
And exactly that happened after a short time—all three of them came out on bail.
Family Reaction
When Bandana’s father was asked about this matter, he said that if his daughter is really the culprit, she should be shot, and also that Bandana had kept him in the dark too.
Bandana hadn’t even told him that her husband and mother-in-law were missing, and she also hadn’t told him that she had filed a complaint with the police about this.
Whenever they asked her about her husband and mother-in-law, she always said that everything was fine, everyone was good.
Case Analysis
The Addiction to Lust
This case represents a disturbing example of how sexual addiction and the inability to control desires can lead to the most extreme consequences.
Bandana’s pattern:
Pre-existing tendencies
-
- : Even before marriage, she had these inclinations
Deception
-
- : She married Amarjyoti primarily for financial security
Strategic planning
-
- : She opened the gym specifically to be around men
Escalation
-
- : Started with two men, then expanded to multiple gym members
No boundaries
-
- : Engaged in group activities regularly
No remorse
- : Even after murders, continued her behavior
The Financial Motive
While sexual addiction was the primary driver of Bandana’s behavior, the murders were financially motivated:
She realized divorce would leave her with nothing
All property was in Shankari Dey’s name
Amarjyoti had no assets in his own name
She stood to potentially inherit if both died under mysterious circumstances
The missing persons report was a cover-up strategy
The Cold Calculation
The murders were premeditated and calculated:
Timing
-
- : Acted immediately before Amarjyoti could file for divorce
Accomplices
-
- : Used her lovers to carry out the violence
Method
-
- : Sedation before murder to avoid struggle
Disposal
-
- : Dismemberment and disposal in remote locations
Cover-up
-
- : Filed false missing persons reports
Misdirection
- : Tried to frame the nephew Nirmaya
The Shocking Lack of Humanity
Perhaps most disturbing:
They were intimate in the same house where they had just murdered and dismembered Amarjyoti
Bodies were kept in the fridge for weeks while they continued their lives
Bandana showed no remorse, even laughing when arrested
The relationship with Dhanti continued throughout the crimes
Police Investigation
The Breakthrough
The police investigation succeeded through:
Persistence
-
- : Continuing despite initial lack of leads
CCTV analysis
-
- : Finding footage of Bandana withdrawing money from victim’s ATM
Neighbor interviews
-
- : Learning about the rooftop burning incident
Suspicion of timing
-
- : Why would a victim file reports about herself?
Remand interrogation
- : Intensive questioning that led to confession
The Evidence
ATM withdrawals by Bandana using Shankari’s card
CCTV footage
Neighbor testimonies about burning materials on rooftop
Confession leading to disposal sites
Partial remains recovered
The Legal Aftermath
All Three Got Bail
Disturbingly, despite the heinous nature of the crimes:
Bandana, Dhanti Deka, and Arup Deka all received bail
This speaks to potential issues in the legal system regarding serious crimes
The case likely continues in court
Questions Remaining
Why were they granted bail for double murder with dismemberment?
What happened to the missing body parts?
Were there other accomplices?
How did neighbors not notice the smell from the fridge?
How many other men were involved in affairs with Bandana?
Psychological Profile
Bandana Kalita
Characteristics:
Sexual addiction: Insatiable desire for multiple partners
Narcissism: Complete lack of empathy or remorse
Manipulative: Used people for her own gratification
Calculating: Planned murders to avoid losing financial security
Deceptive: Maintained façade with family while committing murders
Cold-blooded: Intimate with lovers after committing murders in same location
The Accomplices
Dhanti Deka and Arup Deka:
Willing to commit murder for sexual access
No moral boundaries
Participated in dismemberment
Continued relationship with Bandana after murders
Showed no remorse
Societal Implications
The Dangers of Unchecked Desire
This case illustrates how:
Addiction escalates
-
- : What starts as affairs can lead to murder
Moral boundaries erode
-
- : Each transgression makes the next easier
Rationalization
-
- : Perpetrators justify increasingly extreme acts
Enablers
-
- : Multiple people participated and facilitated
Consequences
- : Lives destroyed for temporary gratification
Warning Signs
In relationships, red flags include:
Partner opening businesses that facilitate infidelity
Unusual behavior around finances
Sudden changes in mother-in-law/family relationships
Secretive behavior
Missing persons reports from someone who may be involved
The Role of Accomplices
This case shows how ordinary people can be drawn into horrific crimes:
Dhanti and Arup were regular men working normal jobs
They became willing accomplices to double murder
Sexual desire was used as the motivating factor
They participated in dismemberment without apparent hesitation
Lessons and Takeaways
On Addiction
As mentioned at the beginning and end of this case:
“Some habits and addictions are very dangerous for us. We know this, but still we go to any lengths to fulfill these desires. And the results are, most of the time, very horrifying.”
This case proves that:
Uncontrolled desires destroy lives
-
- – not just the addict’s, but everyone around them
Moral compromise is a slippery slope
-
- – infidelity led to murder
Material greed compounds danger
-
- – sexual addiction plus financial motive created deadly combination
Accomplices enable evil
- – Dhanti and Arup made the murders possible
On Relationships
Know your partner’s character
-
- before marriage
Financial background checks
-
- aren’t enough – character matters more
Trust your instincts
-
- – Shankari initially opposed the marriage
Quick relationships
-
- can hide dark secrets – they married quickly
Changed behavior
- after marriage is a red flag
On Justice
This case raises questions about:
Bail for heinous crimes – should those accused of premeditated murder with dismemberment get bail?
Gender bias – would male perpetrators have received bail?
Need for psychological evaluation in such cases
Protection for victims’ families from perpetrators out on bail
Current Status
As of the information available:
All three accused (Bandana, Dhanti, Arup) are out on bail
The case is presumably ongoing in court
Partial remains of Shankari Dey were recovered
No remains of Amarjyoti Dey were found
Bandana’s father has disowned her
Conclusion
The Guwahati Gym Murder case stands as one of the most disturbing examples of how unchecked sexual addiction, combined with greed and complete absence of conscience, can lead to unimaginable evil.
A young woman:
Married for money, not love
Opened a business specifically to facilitate affairs
Engaged in regular group sexual activities with multiple partners
When caught, immediately planned double murder
Killed her mother-in-law who had supported her
Killed her husband who had trusted her
Dismembered both bodies
Stored body parts in a fridge for weeks
Disposed of remains in forests
Filed false police reports
Tried to frame an innocent person
Showed no remorse
Was intimate with accomplices in the same house where they had just committed murders
The accomplices—two regular men—were so consumed by lust that they willingly became accessories to double murder, participating in the actual killings and dismemberment.
This case reminds us:
Addiction is progressive
-
- – it doesn’t stay at the same level
Character matters
-
- more than any other quality in a partner
Financial motive
-
- can turn bad behavior into murder
Accomplices
-
- make evil possible – Bandana couldn’t have done this alone
Justice delayed
-
- can mean justice denied – all are out on bail
Remorse requires conscience
- – true psychopaths feel nothing
Final Thoughts
Amarjyoti Dey went to work one day, came home to find his wife cheating, confronted her, and demanded divorce—a completely reasonable response to betrayal.
For this, he was murdered, dismembered, and disposed of in a forest.
Shankari Dey had supported her daughter-in-law financially, helped her open a business, gave her opportunities—and for this, she was murdered, dismembered, and disposed of in a different location.
Their bodies were kept in a refrigerator while their killer laughed and carried on with her affairs.
This is what unchecked addiction and complete absence of conscience looks like.
As I said at the beginning and I’ll say again: I really hope you will take care of yourself and avoid indulging in such things.
Some desires, when fed, grow into monsters. This case proves it.
